showing up
Today, which is now tomorrow since it's 1:04 a.m., I learned what it means to show up. I actually fought a little depression early in the morning but got out of bed motivated by the lowering tide of the surf today. I just felt alone. So I texted my friend to get out there with me, no answer. I packed up my car and to my surpise as I headed out, she called. She met me down there with a couple of beers and warm seats in her car. As I head into the abyss of what's in store this year, I have this to remind me that people will show up. And how important it is that I do, too.

Witness Nice
The one thing I'll be looking out for this year is nice. How I can be nice. Or how someone else is teaching me through their actions, and reminding me that this is the way to be.
The reason I am doing this, is that I'm so far away from being aware of this, that I take it for granted when it is encountered by me, for one. And, that I'm often too busy to remember to take the time to do something nice for someone today, and every day.
It is something more than being considerate. It is taking the extra time to make someone feel special, or to pardon someone for their inconsideration. It is becoming the nice person that you would like to see more of in the world. It can be something between two strangers or it can be people who know each other very well.
So, for today. And every day, I will be writing about the things I see in these busy cities of Santa Monica, and Venice. Oh, and also where I work in the valley. And I will be watching you, and other people and documenting anything nice that I witness.
Sometimes I'll write about some thing I did. Like today after surfing, I put 2 extra quarters into the parking meter next to me as his time was running out. Is that illegal? I'm not sure, but I do know that it's nice.
Let’s all take notice, maybe reading these will inspire you. And I hope writing these every day will keep my heart and eyes open for the next good thing.
